Samsung's rugged B2700 is a solid handset for the outdoors type.
It is water and dust resistant and has some potentially useful features such as a compass, altimeter and pedometer. To be honest, though, I'd rather have a separate compass which I think is better for taking bearings and does not rely on a battery for its existence.
