Beneath the screen touch controls provide for directional movement and softmenu access. The screen is also touch sensitive, but only some of the time. The phone also incorporates a motion sensor that'll flip the screen into wide mode on some occasions. This is handy when watching movies. And you can use the motion sensor when playing some games too.
