HTC's Shift is an odd hybrid of a device.
It is smaller than a notebook computer, larger than a PDA. It runs Windows Vista and a cut down version of Windows Mobile. It costs more than many notebooks and can't give new devices like Asus' EeePC a run for their money in cost terms.
More than these factors, though, it is sluggish in its running of Vista, and its keyboard is really too small to be usable.
