Palm Centro review published

Palm's Centro has made it to the UK at last, having been available in the US for some while.

As the first Palm OS device from the company for quite a time it is a bit of a disappointment. On the hardware front it suffers from a small screen where rival PDA screens are now generally larger and so better suited to activities like web browsing. The fact that it has a qwerty keyboard might sound good to those who want mobile email, but the keyboard is cramped and difficult to work with.

Which is a shame, because the on board VersaMail email software is very good, and the rest of the software bundled with the basic Palm OS applications is also strong. Document creation and editing and music playback are among the goodies.

I can't really forgive the absence of Wi-Fi which is fast becoming ubiquitous for PDAs, nor the fact that this handset lacks 3G. The 1.3 megapixel camera is certainly behind the times too. Palm may not have done enough to regain ground it has lost to Microsoft and Symbian.
