iRex Technologies iLiad Reader review published

Reading texts on a computer screen, even a low brightness LCD, can be a bit hard on the eyes, and it is not exactly comfortable to sit at a computer screen, even a lap-based notebook one, reading a novel - an activity which is, after all, supposed to be a relaxing experience.

Enter the iLiad, a slate style device with a greyscale screen which is easy on the eye. You can use it to read ebooks, look at pictures, and make annotations to the screen. It is light to hold in the hand, and has good battery life.

The potential is there for this device to finally be the much talked about mobile text reader the industry has been searching for. Yes, I know Sony's Reader has been on the market for a while, but not in the UK, and actually, the iLiad has a wider range of features.

Dock it with your PC by Wi-Fi or wired link, and it can download pre-acquired stuff like today's newspaper for example. This is potentially a key selling point for all those busy City types out there. It reads MobiPocket format ebooks, various picture formats, plain text and PDF files too, and can as easily pick these up from an SD card, CF card or USB key drive popped into the relevant slot as from your PC.

In reality there are no UK newspapers to download at present, but the potential is there for future development.

There is a lot more to say about this device and TrustedReviews.com has published my full review. Read it here.
