Sony Ericsson's 'P' series of smartphones has quite a pedigree, and rightly so. They were out there doing things at the core of the smartphone world before there were anywhere near as many alternatives around to choose between.
But today the market is getting crowded, and the new P990i has both a strong pedigree to live up to and a large crowd of competitors to contend with.
I am not sure whether Sony Ericsson has done enough with the P990i to stay ahead of the game. There is certainly plenty of functionality here, and for the professional user things like a very good business card scanner and document editor may be welcome. But I am not convinced by the user interface, which seems rather too clever for its own good at times.
