U3 is a great technology. It lets you run applications direct from a USB key drive, and there is a fair range of applications to choose from - certainly enough to allow most of us to work while on the move at any computer.
U3 also has benefits for those who work while travelling and need to use computers whose security condition may be uncertain, as well as those who fear loosing their USB key drives and want to password protecect the data they store.
